Nisha Nandez Releases “I Wish I Was Special”

It’s always a major feat when an artist attempts a new rendition of an old classic, but the LA-based Nisha Nandez does so flawlessly with her latest single “I Wish I Was Special,” the chorus to the famed alternative rock anthem from Radiohead from the early 1990s.

Lead Singer Thom Yorke allegedly wrote "Creep" as an ode to a girl that he had followed around and then unexpectedly attended a Radiohead performance while Yorke attended Exeter University in the late 1980s, and expresses an obsessive, self-destructive sexual attraction that became a worldwide hit in 1993 and still remains the band’s most iconic rock anthem. Nisha looked to remake the song as an embodiment of her passion for singing and the way she uses singing to reflect the many trials and tribulations she has been able to overcome from multiple failed relationships, four children, homelessness, a brutal attack on her life, and several issues with her health.

A military veteran who deployed to Iraq shortly after 9/11 to serve her country in the wake of that horrific attack, Nisha found her voice joining the U.S. Army Band, and used it to achieve great commercial success with songs like “Killing Me Softly,” “Hurt and Pain,” and “Have Mercy on Me.” The gritty rock sensation in her voice is the culmination of years of soulful and melodic power that have come to define her singing, and Return Records couldn’t be more proud to release her latest single on the label!
